The Ant and the Grasshopper
One sunny summer day, an ant was busy carrying food to her home. She worked hard, picking up grains and storing them in her little house. The sun was hot, but she didn’t stop.
Nearby, a grasshopper sat under a tree. He was playing his fiddle and singing happily. He saw the ant and called out, “Hey, Ant! Why are you working so hard? Come and play with me!”
The ant stopped for a moment and wiped her forehead. “I’m getting ready for winter,” she said. “When the cold comes, there will be no food, so I need to save enough now.”
The grasshopper laughed. “Winter is so far away! There’s plenty of food right now. Why worry?”
The ant shook her head and said, “You should start saving too, Grasshopper. You’ll need food when the snow falls.”
But the grasshopper just played his fiddle and danced. “I’ll be fine! There’s always food somewhere,” he said.
Summer turned into fall, and soon, winter arrived. The trees lost their leaves, the grass turned brown, and the ground was covered in snow. The ant stayed warm and cozy in her home, eating the food she had saved.
But the grasshopper wasn’t so lucky. He was cold and hungry, with no food to eat. He remembered the ant’s warning and felt ashamed.
The grasshopper went to the ant’s home and knocked on her door. “Ant, I’m so sorry. You were right. I didn’t save any food, and now I’m hungry. Can you help me?”
The ant thought for a moment. “I’ll share my food with you this time,” she said kindly. “But next year, you must work hard like me.”
The grasshopper nodded. “I promise I’ll work hard and prepare for winter next time.”
From that day on, the grasshopper learned an important lesson: It’s always wise to prepare for the future.
