Fifteen-year-old Mia loved tinkering in her late grandfather’s dusty attic. Among the boxes of old books and peculiar gadgets, she stumbled upon a strange metallic watch unlike anything she had seen before. It was covered in glowing runes, with gears that spun when she touched them. The engraving read: “Time is what you make it.”
Curious, she strapped it onto her wrist and twisted a glowing dial. Suddenly, the attic disappeared in a flash of light. When the blinding glow faded, Mia found herself standing in a cobblestone street bustling with people in vintage clothing. Horse-drawn carriages clattered by, and gas lamps lined the sidewalks.
“Where am I?” she muttered, panic rising.
She ducked into an alley to avoid drawing attention and noticed a newspaper on the ground. The date read: July 15, 1895.
A Mission in the Past
Realizing the watch had transported her over a century into the past, Mia was both terrified and exhilarated. Her excitement was short-lived when she overheard two men talking in hushed tones nearby.
“The plans for the school need to be sabotaged tonight,” one whispered. “If that academy opens, the town’s future is doomed.”
Mia’s heart pounded. She knew from history class that the academy they mentioned went on to become a world-renowned institution, producing some of the greatest inventors. If these men succeeded, the timeline could be altered forever.
With no time to lose, Mia decided to stop them.
Courage and Cleverness
Using her modern knowledge and quick thinking, Mia managed to eavesdrop and track the men to a warehouse. She saw blueprints of the academy building and overheard their plan to set a fire to destroy it.
Mia waited for the men to leave, then sneaked inside and hid the blueprints under a pile of crates. She also managed to lock the warehouse door from the outside with a chain she found. By the time the men returned, their sabotage attempt was thwarted. Frustrated, they abandoned their mission.
Returning Home
With her task complete, Mia activated the watch again, praying it would take her back. In another burst of light, she was back in her grandfather’s attic.
Relieved but shaken, Mia vowed to keep the watch a secret. She realized the responsibility that came with wielding the power to travel through time. The past wasn’t just a story—it was alive and fragile.
But she couldn’t deny the thrill of adventure. Maybe, just maybe, she’d use the watch again one day.
