The Boy and the Sparrow

In a quiet village surrounded by rolling hills, there lived a young boy named Ethan. Ethan was known for his curious nature and love of adventure. He would spend his afternoons exploring the woods and fields, collecting interesting stones, and observing birds as they darted across the sky.

One sunny afternoon, while wandering through a meadow, Ethan heard a faint chirping sound coming from the bushes. Intrigued, he pushed aside the leaves to find a small sparrow lying on the ground. Its tiny wing was twisted unnaturally, and the bird struggled to move. Ethan’s heart sank.

“You poor thing,” he whispered, gently scooping the sparrow into his hands. The bird didn’t resist; it seemed too weak and frightened. Ethan carefully tucked it into his shirt to keep it warm and hurried back home.

At home, Ethan prepared a small makeshift nest using hay, cotton, and a shoebox. He placed the sparrow inside and fed it crumbs of bread and drops of water. “I’ll take care of you,” he promised. “You’ll be flying again in no time.”

Days turned into weeks, and Ethan named the sparrow Fluffy. Every morning, he would check on Fluffy, feed it, and speak softly to the little bird. Slowly but surely, Fluffy’s wing began to heal. The bond between Ethan and the sparrow grew stronger, and Fluffy would chirp excitedly whenever Ethan came near.

One bright morning, Ethan noticed something different. Fluffy hopped onto the edge of the box and flapped its wings confidently. The sparrow was ready to fly. Ethan’s heart sank at the thought of parting with his new friend, but he knew that Fluffy belonged in the sky, not in a box.

With a heavy heart, Ethan carried Fluffy to the meadow where they had first met. He knelt down and opened his hands. “Go on, Fluffy. Fly!” he said, his voice trembling. For a moment, Fluffy hesitated, looking at Ethan with its beady black eyes. Then, with a powerful flutter, it took off into the sky. Ethan watched as Fluffy disappeared into the clouds, feeling both pride and sadness.

Winter came, and the fields were covered in frost. Ethan often thought of Fluffy and wondered where it might be. One cold morning, as he was playing near the edge of the woods, a familiar sound reached his ears. He looked up to see a flock of sparrows circling above him.

To his astonishment, one of the sparrows flew down and landed on his shoulder. It was Fluffy! The little bird chirped happily and flitted around Ethan, as if to say thank you. But Fluffy wasn’t alone; it had brought its new friends along. The flock danced and chirped around Ethan, filling the cold morning with warmth and joy.

From that day on, Ethan understood something profound: acts of kindness, no matter how small, always come back to you in ways you never expect.

Moral: Kindness to others, no matter how small, will always return to you.
